The Conseil des arts de la Baie (CAB) is seeking candidates for a paid printmaking internship at La Manivelle Print Studio in Church Point, NS.

The Conseil des arts de la Baie operates La Manivelle Printmaking Studio and Galerie Le Trécarré. This internship offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in a rural arts community on the shores of the Baie Sainte-Marie while developing technical and administrative skills in a studio focused on non-toxic printmaking processes. The intern receives free, 24 h access to the print studio facilities, with some basic materials provided. Subsidized housing available at Université Sainte-Anne student apartments for out-of-town candidates.

Job Description:

The main focus of the internship is to provide open studio supervision and assist with studio maintenance. The intern will receive technical training (equipment maintenance, preparation of materials and chemicals) and provide technical guidance to members. While supervising the studio, the intern is permitted to work on their own projects when not actively assisting members. WHMIS training and certification will be provided.

Secondary tasks include one day per week as a gallery attendant and managing the information desk at the visitor centre (training provided). The intern will also assist the Executive Director with communications, exhibition installation, and provide technical support or documentation for artists in residence as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Student or recent graduate in visual arts (specialization in printmaking) or emerging artist with equivalent experience, including practical knowledge of techniques such as etching, silkscreen, relief, and lithography.

  • Interest in or experience with non-toxic workshop practices is highly valued.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with the public and studio members.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.

  • A valid driver's license and access to a car is strongly recommended due to the rural location.

  • Must meet all Canada Summer Jobs youth eligibility criteria (age 15–30, Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee status with a valid SIN).

How to Apply

Candidates are strongly encouraged to contact the Executive Director with any questions or for clarifications before applying: direction@lecab.ca

Interested candidates should submit the following:

  1. Letter of intent, including mention of your eligibility for the Canada Summer Jobs program.

  2. CV.

  3. Portfolio of 10 images of work with a description list.

  4. Contact information for at least one reference familiar with your printmaking work (e.g., instructor, professor, or studio technician). A letter of recommendation may also be included (optional).

Le Conseil des arts de la Baie would like to thank our members, partners, and funders for their generous support that makes our programming possible.
